SK Telecom (SKT) announced on June 16 that it will launch 'AX Innovation 2.0' to create an environment where employees can engage more deeply with artificial intelligence (AI) transformation. The initiative aims to utilize AI not just as a simple tool but as an integral part of the workforce.

During the '2026 New Icheon Forum' held last week at the SKMS Research Institute in Icheon, CEO Jeong Jae-hun presented the AX Innovation 2.0 plan. This initiative focuses on enhancing organizational productivity and innovating the company’s business model through AI.

As part of this effort, SKT will assign employee identification numbers to AI agents, allocating roles, responsibilities, and permissions similar to human employees. The company will also establish governance structures to ensure data and security access protocols for AI agents, enabling them to work alongside human staff.

SKT will introduce an 'AX Sandbox' system, which has been piloted over the past three months within certain teams in the AI CIC. This trial revealed the potential for a 'Multi-Role' work approach, where one person can handle multiple roles such as planning, development, and design with various agents. It also demonstrated significant productivity improvements in planning tasks that previously required extensive time, as well as enhanced communication and decision-making speeds.

The AX Sandbox will be gradually expanded across the company, allowing employees to freely experiment with new work methods that incorporate AI in real-world settings. The goal is to foster a culture of rapid planning, execution, and improvement in collaboration with AI.

To increase AI utilization among employees, SKT plans to enhance the integration of its internal AI platform with work systems. The company aims to consolidate existing AI development platforms, such as A. Biz, Polaris, and Playground, while strengthening security measures to create a comprehensive AI-enabled work environment.

An operational team will be established to promote the widespread adoption of AI transformation (AX) throughout the organization. SKT will select 'AX Catalysts' to share AI use cases and address on-site challenges.

Additionally, SKT plans to expand practical AI training and upgrade its existing AI idea-sharing system into an 'AX Library' to accumulate and disseminate best practices and expertise across the company.

CEO Jeong stated, "By normalizing AX, the time and capabilities of our employees will be transformed into a driving force for new challenges and growth. We will spare no effort in supporting our employees to build their AI capabilities and achieve results."

Since taking office, Jeong has consistently emphasized the importance of AX transformation. In February, he encouraged new employees and team leaders to accelerate AX to ensure the company's continuous growth and development.
