The South Korean Justice Ministry announced on June 17 that it is stepping in as a "legal savior" for companies struggling with operational difficulties due to geopolitical instability in the Middle East and the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war.

From today until June 18, the ministry is hosting an "International Legal Support Seminar" to assess local legal risks faced by South Korean businesses and to propose response strategies.

On the first day, the ministry is holding a seminar in collaboration with the Korea International Trade Association, focusing on "Legal Risk Analysis and Response Strategies in the Middle East," to address challenges faced by exporters.

This seminar will delve into key issues in three sessions, including contractual liability due to maritime transport disruptions such as restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, payment issues, and dispute resolution practices that companies encounter in their transactions.

On the second day, the ministry will conduct a legal support seminar and one-on-one customized consultation sessions for companies interested in post-war reconstruction projects in Ukraine, in collaboration with the South Korean Embassy in Ukraine.

The consultation will be conducted in a hybrid format, connecting South Korea, Ukraine, and Poland online, and will cover topics such as managing exhibition regulations and a roadmap for compensation for war-damaged assets.

Kang Jun-ha, Director of the International Legal Affairs Bureau at the Justice Ministry, stated, "As international circumstances rapidly change, close communication and cooperation between the government, businesses, and private experts are essential. We will continue to robustly support our companies' global expansion through various channels, including the International Legal Support Team for Overseas Businesses, and will not spare practical legal assistance."
