The South Korean government is set to establish an integrated management system for marinas across the country and expand related infrastructure. Additionally, regulations will be revised to encourage private investment, and region-specific programs will be developed to make marinas more accessible to the public.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced the "Customized Marina Activation Plan" during an economic ministers' meeting on June 19. The plan focuses on four key areas: establishing a marina management system, expanding marina infrastructure and improving conditions for private investment, strengthening the foundation for the marina industry, and fostering a marina-friendly culture.

First, the management system for marina facilities will be revamped. Previously, it was difficult to obtain a comprehensive view of the status of marina-related facilities through a single channel. The new plan will implement an integrated management system for monitoring status and safety management.

Additionally, measures will be introduced to manage the history of ownership changes and maintenance or accident records for marina vessels. A "history management system" will be gradually implemented, assigning unique identification numbers to vessels and registering them in a vessel information system.

Hwang Jong-woo, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "Once the vessel history management system is established, it is expected to invigorate the brokerage market for marina vessels by clearly defining the scope of marina vessels."

The government will also expand marina infrastructure to meet growing demand. Efforts will be accelerated to develop six key marina ports and establish two marina business centers to foster an industrial ecosystem that supports professional training and entrepreneurship.

For private development projects outside designated marina port areas, the government will streamline preliminary procedures to reduce project timelines. Furthermore, regulations will be improved to facilitate active private investment.

To support the international expansion of domestic marina vessels and equipment, South Korea will establish a Korean pavilion at major overseas yacht exhibitions and increase participation from domestic companies. The government will also enhance research and development related to eco-friendly and artificial intelligence (AI) marina vessels and promote technology transfer to strengthen the export competitiveness of domestic firms.

Finally, policies will be implemented to make marinas more familiar to the public. Marina tourism products will be diversified from sightseeing to experiential offerings. The plan aims to expand unique programs that incorporate local culture and marine leisure activities. Additionally, the Ministry will facilitate consulting opportunities between local governments and experts to promote regional branding pilot projects.

Minister Hwang emphasized, "We will strive for innovation in marina-related regulations and the development of new policies, enhancing the value of the sea not only as a foundation for our economy and livelihoods but also as a space for relaxation and healing."
