Jang Dong-hyuk Hospitalized, Uncertain When He Will Return to Party Duties

Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, has been hospitalized due to overwork, leaving uncertainty about when he will return to his party duties.

Party Secretary General Jeong Hee-yong stated at a National Assembly meeting on the morning of June 19, "Yesterday, Representative Jang visited the emergency room and was hospitalized on medical advice. Although the party leader is absent, we will ensure that the party's work continues without disruption."

Jang's hospitalization is reportedly due to the cumulative fatigue from his earlier hunger strike and his involvement in protests related to a ballot shortage following the local elections. Additionally, there are analyses suggesting that the pressure for him to resign, which has intensified since the local elections, has also contributed to his stress.

Representative Yoo Young-ha mentioned on her Facebook page, "I learned about Representative Jang's hospitalization through the media today. While it is said to be due to the aftereffects of his hunger strike, I believe the stress from the pressure to resign also played a significant role."

Yoo added, "Let’s put aside discussions about resignation until he is discharged. I believe he will handle the situation wisely at the appropriate time. I hope there can be a brief period of silence for him to recover, even if just for a moment."

Jang is expected to continue his treatment in the hospital for the time being. Chief Spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon told reporters that "Representative Jang is currently hospitalized, and tests were conducted yesterday and today," adding that the timing of his return remains uncertain.
