Following the first ceasefire negotiations between the United States and Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced significant progress in ending the Lebanon War.
Araqchi, who represented Iran in the negotiations, stated on social media platform X on June 22 that "thanks to the relentless mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, there has been substantial progress in ending the Lebanon War." He added, "Iran is now allowed to export oil and petrochemical products, the blockade has been lifted, some frozen assets have been released, and large-scale reconstruction and development plans have commenced."
However, he emphasized that the "first real test will be the de-confliction cell," referring to a mechanism included in the joint statement. Both sides agreed to establish this cell to halt hostile actions across all fronts, including Lebanon, as part of a ceasefire memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Araqchi is closely watching whether this mechanism will effectively halt conflicts between Israel and Lebanon.
Meanwhile, according to the joint statement released by Qatar and Pakistan after the first day of U.S.-Iran negotiations, the two nations agreed to establish a High Level Committee to oversee the implementation of the MOU, which includes nuclear issues and various sanctions. Additionally, the committee has agreed to a roadmap for final ceasefire agreements within 60 days and will conduct further technical meetings.
The joint statement also noted that the U.S. and Iran have opened communication lines to prevent incidents and misunderstandings as part of the MOU aimed at ensuring safe maritime passage in the Strait of Hormuz.
