A wolfdog that escaped from a farm in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, has been spotted in the nearby city of Dangjin, prompting authorities to investigate.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a report was received at 6:17 a.m. on June 24 about a dog resembling a wolfdog roaming in Sudang-ri, Jeongmi-myeon, Dangjin.

Sudang-ri is adjacent to Yeomiri in Unsan-myeon, Seosan, where wolfdogs are raised. Firefighters dispatched to the scene searched the area but did not locate the animal.

The Dangjin city government issued an emergency alert at 7:43 a.m., advising local residents not to approach the animal if spotted and to report it immediately to emergency services.

The Chungnam Fire Headquarters noted that since the escape of the wolfdogs became known, there have been several related reports in Seosan, Dangjin, and Yesan, although many have turned out to be stray dogs. Authorities are asking residents to take photos and report sightings as they continue their tracking efforts.

Earlier, on June 16, 11 out of 18 wolfdogs being raised at a farm in Seosan escaped around 2 a.m. Most of them have since been captured, and one of the four remaining animals returned to the farm on June 23 at 11:30 p.m.

Of the three remaining wolfdogs, one is an adult, while the other two are approximately five months old. Under current animal protection laws, wolfdogs are not classified as dangerous dogs.
