The Constitutional Court has dismissed two complaints filed by citizens claiming their voting rights were violated due to ballot shortages during the June 3 local elections.

According to legal sources on June 24, the court dismissed the two constitutional complaints regarding the "unconstitutionality of ballot shortages during the 9th nationwide local elections" during a preliminary review the previous day. A dismissal means that the court did not proceed to review the merits of the case due to failure to meet basic requirements.

The court determined that both cases lacked the necessary self-relevance, a requirement for constitutional complaints, indicating that the complainants were not direct parties to the alleged violation of rights.

In one case brought by a resident of Gangdong-gu, the court found insufficient evidence that there were ballot shortages or interruptions in voting in the complainant's electoral district, thus failing to substantiate claims of voting rights violations.

In another case, the court noted that the complainant was a minor without voting rights, stating, "Self-relevance regarding the violation of fundamental rights cannot be recognized," leading to the dismissal.

Earlier, on June 16, the court dismissed a similar complaint filed by a general citizen for similar reasons. This means that all three individual complaints filed by citizens have now been dismissed.

Only one complaint remains. This case was filed by attorney Do Tae-woo, representing 35,216 residents from Jamsil 7-dong, and is currently under preliminary review by the court.
