Han Dong-hoon Compares Jang Dong-hyuk's Stance to Football Coaches' Refusal to Resign

Han Dong-hoon, an independent lawmaker, criticized Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, on June 28 for rejecting calls for his resignation and mentioning the possibility of disciplinary action. He likened Jang's stance to that of football coach Hong Myung-bo and Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-kyu, who refused to resign after the South Korean national team was eliminated from the group stage of the 2026 North Central America World Cup.

During an appearance on KBS Radio's "Jung Kwan-yong's Current Affairs Headquarters," Han stated, "The evaluation of Jang Dong-hyuk is already over, and there is no one who would be afraid of such threats. It will only become a laughingstock for being 'not normal.'"

He added, "If Jang were truly confident, wouldn’t he hold a vote of re-endorsement? But that topic has been conveniently ignored. It is clear that the social evaluation of Jang Dong-hyuk has already concluded. The party's sentiment ultimately reflects public sentiment."

Han also expressed understanding of the citizens' frustrations regarding the shortage of ballots at the election management committee and their calls for a re-election. He said, "I fully empathize with the citizens who are calling for a re-election and feel that fairness and fundamentals have collapsed. However, politicians who seek to prolong their own careers must step aside. Jang Dong-hyuk has been using this situation as an escape route whenever he is cornered."

Regarding the issue of reinstatement to the People Power Party, Han remarked, "When I was expelled, my first statement was, 'I will definitely return.' I believe the only thing left is the procedure for my return."

He continued, "Some, like Jang Dong-hyuk and the party leadership faction, will naturally try to prevent my return, but the various unreasonable behaviors they exhibit are already heading toward an end."

Han concluded, "What I aim to do is to rebuild conservatism, win the general elections, and reclaim power, not to seek revenge against anyone. Rebuilding conservatism cannot be done by me alone."
