Ahead of the national convention in August, the Democratic Party confirmed its schedule for candidate registration and regional primaries through its National Convention Preparatory Committee on June 30.

During its first meeting at the National Assembly, the committee established a detailed timeline, including the registration of candidates for party leader and supreme council members, and formed six subcommittees to facilitate the convention.

Lee Yeon-hee, who will serve as the committee's spokesperson, told reporters after the meeting that the committee approved key dates, stating, "Candidate registration for party leader and supreme council members will take place over two days starting July 16. The date for the regional party conventions has also been set for July 19."

She added, "The preliminary primary will be held on July 21. The schedule for the regional primaries will run from August 1 for three weeks."

Specifically, the regional primaries will take place as follows: August 1 in South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, Daejeon, and Sejong; August 2 in Ulsan, Busan, and South Gyeongsang; August 8 in Jeju and Incheon; August 9 in Gangwon, Daegu, and North Gyeongsang; August 15 in North Jeolla, Gwangju, and South Jeolla; and August 16 in Gyeonggi and Seoul.

Additionally, during the first meeting, the committee established six subcommittees to ensure the smooth conduct of the convention and appointed chairs for each.

Lee specified that the chairs will be: Choi Gi-sang for the Planning Committee, Kwon Hyang-yeop for the Organization Committee, Maeng Seong-kyu for the General Affairs and Public Relations Committee, Jeong Tae-ho for the Charter and Policy Committee, Song Ok-joo for the Party Rules and Development Committee, and Mo Gyeong-jong for the Youth and Future Committee. A detailed list of committee members will be announced later.

Furthermore, the committee emphasized that this convention should focus on unity and innovation rather than divisive conflict.

Vice Chair Song Ok-joo stated before the meeting commenced, "We will create a convention that embodies the sovereignty of party members beyond factions. We must compete on policies, not engage in wasteful conflict. This should be a starting point for unity instead of division, and innovation instead of stagnation."
