The government is expanding AI job training programs to address growing employment concerns among young people due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

On the morning of July 8, the Ministry of Employment and Labor held a field meeting with AI job training participants at the KG ICT training center in Jongno, Seoul. The meeting aimed to listen to the concerns of young people regarding changes in job environments caused by the introduction of AI in various industries.

The labor authorities are enhancing vocational training to equip young people with the skills needed in the AI era. Notably, this year, a specialized course at the KDT 'AI Campus' was established to train technical personnel required in the AI industry, such as AI engineers and AI application developers. Training for 'AI workers' has also begun, focusing on improving productivity in specialized fields like web design and video production through the use of AI tools.

The expansion of AI job training comes in response to a dual challenge of sluggish youth employment and a mismatch in the labor market. Companies are struggling to find practical talent needed for AI transitions, while young people face difficulties in securing jobs with their existing education.

KG ICT, where the meeting took place, is an IT subsidiary of the KG Group and has participated in KDT training since 2023. This year, it was selected for the AI Campus project, conducting training for a total of 121 participants across two classes in the 'Physical AI Manufacturing AX Campus Course' and two classes in the 'Youth Secondary Battery Future Technology Academy.'

Attendees included new trainees and graduates from the program. One trainee remarked, "Many of my friends and seniors who graduated from college are not employed in their desired jobs," and urged the government to broaden opportunities for young people to re-enter the workforce and enhance support so they can focus on training without financial worries.

Success stories from KDT training were also shared. A young person who secured a job at KG ICT after training in the arts and physical education stated, "I am currently involved in planning AI transition (AX) and digital transformation (DX) projects based on the IT and robotics knowledge I gained during training."

Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon emphasized, "In the AI era, what matters is not years of experience but the ability to define problems and effectively utilize AI to solve them," adding that the government will actively support young people to lead the AI industrial transition and will continue to expand the KDT AI Campus program.
