South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo visited the Goyang Changneung district in Gyeonggi Province on July 9, emphasizing the importance of rapid housing supply to stabilize the real estate market in the metropolitan area.

During the visit, he and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok assessed the progress of the third new town initiative and discussed ways to accelerate the development of public housing sites.

Han stressed the need to ensure that essential infrastructure, including transportation, education, electricity, water supply, sewage, and district heating, is developed in line with the pace of housing supply, as it directly affects the living conditions of residents in the third new town.

Minister Kim noted the critical role of the third new town in supplying housing in the metropolitan area, stating that all efforts would be focused on expediting the project through regulatory improvements and meticulous project management. He also assured that worker safety at construction sites during the rainy season, as well as the safety and quality of buildings, would be rigorously maintained.

The Goyang Changneung district is a large-scale housing site located in the western part of Seoul, where compensation procedures have been completed and housing construction is underway.

Meanwhile, at a ceremony marking Construction Day held in Gangnam, Prime Minister Han stated, "The government has announced investment plans for three major mega-projects for Korea's leap forward. This is a time when the future of construction looks particularly bright."

He added, "Core infrastructure, including industrial complexes and transportation networks, as well as data centers and energy infrastructure, can only be realized through the proactive participation of construction professionals. The government will actively support research and development investments and the creation of an industrial ecosystem for AI technology development in construction, talent cultivation, and overseas expansion."

Han emphasized that "the future of smart construction presents a very important direction for us," stating that the starting point for all of this lies in ensuring safety and fair procedures. He called for improvements to outdated practices between primary and subcontractors to foster an environment where diligent companies and workers are treated fairly.
