The fallout from the Tving data breach may extend beyond direct subscribers to include users who signed up through partner services like Naver, Kakao, and KT.

On July 14, Rep. Lee Jeong-heon’s office cited data received from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Personal Information Protection Commission, raising concerns about the potential exposure of personal information for users who registered through easy login and other partner services.

According to the office, Tving had collected and retained personal verification information, such as names, email addresses, and phone numbers, during the easy login process with Naver and Kakao. There is a possibility that this information was compromised during the hacking incident.

Additionally, it was suggested that users who received Tving vouchers as part of KT's customer compensation program could also be affected. Approximately 586,000 customers selected Tving vouchers through KT's customer reward program.

Rep. Lee's office pointed out that Tving retained personal verification information from users who registered through various partner services, including Disney+, indicating that the number of affected users could increase based on the results of a joint investigation by the public and private sectors.

Rep. Lee stated, "Even if a company is not the direct source of the data breach, it cannot evade its obligation to inform and protect customers if it has provided partner services to affected clients."

He added, "This incident illustrates that partnerships between major platforms and the integration of easy login can enhance convenience while also introducing new security risks. The government must establish institutional safeguards to strengthen the responsibilities of partner companies based on the findings of the joint investigation."
