GC Green Cross is enhancing its collaboration with global life sciences company Cytiva to strengthen the supply chain for biopharmaceuticals. The partnership aims to secure a stable production base for its product 'Aliglo,' targeting the U.S. market, and to expand cooperation in next-generation bioprocessing technologies.

On July 16, GC Green Cross announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cytiva to establish a stable supply system for essential consumables needed for biopharmaceutical production and to collaborate on next-generation bioprocessing technologies.

This agreement marks the 30th anniversary of their partnership, which began with their first transaction in 1996. The two companies shared strategies to respond to changes in the global biopharmaceutical market.

Under the agreement, they plan to establish a priority supply system for essential consumables, such as virus removal filters, needed for the production of Aliglo, a key blood product for entering the U.S. market, to address global supply chain volatility.

Additionally, they will utilize Cytiva's APAC Fast Trak center in Songdo, Incheon, to expand support for process optimization technologies for messenger RNA (mRNA) and cell and gene therapies (CGT), as well as training programs.

Shin Woong, head of GC Green Cross, stated, "The collaboration we have built with Cytiva over the past 30 years has laid the foundation for GC Green Cross's growth in the global blood product market. With this agreement, we aim to ensure stable global supply of Aliglo and enhance our competitiveness in developing next-generation biopharmaceuticals."

Meanwhile, Aliglo, a 10% immunoglobulin (IVIG) product developed by GC Green Cross, received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2023 and generated $106 million (approximately 159.3 billion won) in sales in the U.S. last year.
