Online Issuance of Minor Children's Immigration Certificates Begins August 7

Parents will be able to apply for and receive immigration certificates for their minor children online through Government 24 starting August 7.

On August 6, the Ministry of Justice's Immigration and Foreign Policy Bureau announced that, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, a verification system utilizing family relationship information has been established. This will allow parents to apply for and receive the 'immigration certificate' for their minor children online via Government 24 beginning August 7.

Previously, the online application service for the 'immigration certificate' had been available since 2014 through Government 24, but minor children were excluded from this service due to the need for legal representative verification, causing significant inconvenience for parents.

However, with this system improvement, parents will now be able to obtain immigration certificates through Government 24. If additional legal relationship verification is required, such as confirming parental rights, parents will still need to visit administrative offices like immigration and foreign affairs in person to apply.

The Ministry of Justice stated, "We expect this improvement will reduce the inconvenience of parents having to visit administrative offices to confirm their minor children's immigration status. We anticipate a significant reduction in the administrative burden for parents preparing for overseas travel or submitting documentation related to their children's education."

Jung Sung-ho, Minister of Justice, also commented, "The issuance of immigration certificates is a vital public service closely related to overseas travel, studying abroad, and various administrative procedures. This meaningful improvement enhances convenience for citizens through cooperation among relevant agencies. We will continue to pursue innovations in digital-based immigration and administrative services to ensure that citizens can access these services conveniently and promptly."
