Blue House Holds Emergency Meeting After North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile

The Blue House's National Security Office convened an emergency security meeting on August 12 after North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the Wonsan area into the East Sea. The meeting aimed to assess the military's response and the implications for national security.

The National Security Office expressed concern over North Korea's missile launch, which occurred just six days after a similar incident on August 6, and urged an immediate halt to provocations.

In a press release, the office stated that the emergency meeting included representatives from the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Participants reviewed the military's response immediately following the missile launch and shared updates on potential further provocations.

During the meeting, officials analyzed and evaluated the impact of the latest missile launch on security in the Korean Peninsula and directed relevant agencies to take necessary measures. Specific details regarding the missile's launch time, trajectory, flight distance, and altitude were not immediately disclosed.

North Korea launched the missile toward the East Sea from the Wonsan area, which has been a key site for testing short-range ballistic missiles and tactical missiles.

This launch comes just six days after North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea from the same Wonsan area. At that time, the National Security Office also held an emergency meeting with the Defense Ministry and Joint Chiefs of Staff to assess the military's readiness and security implications.

The National Security Office reiterated its concern, stating, "We express our worries over the continued ballistic missile launches by North Korea since August 6."

It also emphasized that North Korea's missile launches constitute provocative acts that violate United Nations Security Council resolutions, which prohibit all missile launches utilizing North Korean ballistic missile technology.

The office stressed, "North Korea must immediately cease its ballistic missile launches," and indicated that it would continue to monitor the readiness of relevant agencies in preparation for potential further provocations.
