Dongdaemun Design Plaza is no stranger to people dressed to stand out. But when Seoul Fashion Week arrives, the atmosphere changes. Across DDP's broad steps, open plazas and sweeping silver curves, visitors gather in clothes chosen not merely to be worn, but to be seen.

Some arrive in vivid colors. Others favor sharply tailored silhouettes, oversized pieces or combinations rarely encountered on an ordinary day in Seoul. Strangers stop to admire one another's outfits. Cameras turn toward anyone who catches the eye.

The runway is no longer confined to the show venue. Before visitors enter the official shows, the spaces outside DDP become runways of their own. People pose against the futuristic architecture, photograph one another and study the looks passing by.

Inside, models and designers command the official stage.Outside, visitors create another.

For a few days, the entire DDP complex becomes a place where watching and being watched are equally part of the experience.

Seoul Fashion Week, launched in 2000 and organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is held twice a year for the spring-summer and fall-winter seasons. It gives Korean designers a platform to present their collections to international audiences and connect with overseas buyers.

The 2027 S/S Seoul Fashion Week runs from Sept. 1 to 6 at DDP and other venues, including Lotte World Mall in Jamsil. The program includes 21 fashion shows and eight presentations featuring Korean designer brands. A trade show brings together 97 brands with international buyers. But Seoul Fashion Week is shaped by more than designers, models and business deals.

The people who come to watch are part of the spectacle themselves. Around DDP, fashion becomes something immediate and personal. A jacket, a pair of boots, an unusual silhouette or a carefully chosen accessory can turn an ordinary visitor into the subject of another person's photograph.

Against DDP's vast metallic facade, each outfit adds its own color and character. Some visitors come for the collections. Some come to photograph them. Others simply come dressed in a way they might not anywhere else.

Together, they create the scene outside the runway. Fashion can be an industry, a profession or one of the simplest ways people show something about themselves. For one week, all of those meanings converge at DDP. And the heart of Seoul fashion beats not only inside the shows, but everywhere around them.
