Gaon Cable is expanding its renewable energy business by entering the floating solar market.

On September 14, Gaon Cable announced it will supply approximately 17 billion won worth of ACF cables for major domestic floating solar projects, including Seokmunho and Saemangeum.

This supply marks Gaon Cable's first contract in the floating solar sector and is the first instance of applying ACF technology to floating solar projects. Following its supply for the land-based solar project on Bijindo in 2023, the company has now extended the application of ACF to floating solar.

ACF is an integrated cable with a protective aluminum sheath, allowing for installation without separate piping, which reduces construction processes and shortens project timelines.

In response to the growing scale of floating solar power plants, Gaon Cable has developed large-scale, long-distance products tailored to enhance installation and maintenance efficiency in floating solar environments.

As large-scale floating solar projects are being pursued in South Korea, the demand for related power infrastructure is expected to grow. The government plans to establish a floating solar power plant with a total capacity of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) in Saemangeum by 2030. The company aims to use this initial supply as a stepping stone to expand its participation in subsequent projects and to intensify its efforts in the domestic floating solar market.

Gaon Cable is also expanding its high-value specialty cable business, focusing on large power infrastructure markets such as AI data centers, solar energy, and power plants. The company plans to strengthen its market competitiveness with differentiated products, including ACF, low-friction cables, and cable buses.
