President Lee Visits New York's Koreatown, Celebrates Chuseok with Community

President Lee Jae-myung and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung visited Koreatown in Manhattan on September 21, local time, to celebrate Chuseok with the Korean community.

According to Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Gyu-ryeong, the couple, who are in New York for the UN General Assembly, received a briefing from Ambassador to the UN Cha Ji-hoon about the formation and development of Koreatown while exploring the area.

The couple examined shops with Korean signage and browsed through various Korean products, including cosmetics.

As they greeted the community ahead of the Chuseok holiday, local residents and tourists recognized them, waving and requesting photos, which the couple happily accommodated.

Later, they dined at a Korean restaurant called 'The Big House,' enjoying dishes such as stone pot rice, napa cabbage soup, taro soup, braised mackerel, and assorted pancakes.

Deputy Spokesperson Ahn noted, “This visit to Koreatown was a meaningful opportunity to share warm greetings with our compatriots who have established roots in a foreign land and to witness the status of Korean culture embedded in the daily life of New York.”
