Hong Ji-sun Visits First Housing Supply Site, Emphasizes Execution Over Planning

Hong Ji-sun, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited the Bucheon Daechang District, one of the third new towns, on September 22, stating, "Execution is more important than planning in housing supply," and pledged to closely manage project schedules and processes by applying the fastest construction models to the third new towns.

During her visit to the public housing site in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, Hong assessed the housing supply schedule and the current status of project implementation.

The Bucheon Daechang District is a third new town that will provide approximately 20,000 housing units in the western metropolitan area adjacent to Seoul. Construction began in December of last year, with the first 1,600 units in blocks A5 and A6 expected to be ready for occupancy by November 2027. Hong emphasized the need to ensure that not only the Bucheon Daechang District but also the overall housing supply policies, including the August 13 measures, lead to tangible results in stabilizing housing for the public.

She also called for the seamless implementation of the 'Housing Stability Plan' announced the previous day. "The key is to supply quality housing in good locations through the provision of 1.19 million public housing units, allowing the public to feel housing stability and build a ladder for housing opportunities," she noted.

Hong pointed out that the high competition rate for applications in the Bucheon Daechang District reflects the public's strong interest and demand for housing. She stressed the importance of supplying homes that meet the needs of actual buyers at reasonable prices in a prime location close to Seoul, while ensuring that urban functions such as transportation, living, jobs, education, and parks are in place by the time residents move in.

In addition to the speed of supply, she highlighted the importance of safety and quality management. "To ensure that the public can feel the results of housing supply, it is crucial to push projects forward swiftly while strictly adhering to promised supply schedules and quality standards," she said, urging thorough on-site management to prevent poor construction or safety accidents during the acceleration of project timelines.
