President Lee Announces Three Key Policies on Housing, Jobs, and Financial Support

President Lee Jae-myung announced on September 29 that the government will prioritize housing, job creation, and financial support as its three core social policies, utilizing available resources including excess tax revenue.

During a cabinet meeting at the Blue House, President Lee outlined the key measures of these policies, which include the supply of 1.19 million public housing units, a national job creation initiative, and the expansion of inclusive finance. He urged all ministries to expedite their implementation.

President Lee emphasized that this year's tax revenue is expected to exceed initial projections and should be used to improve the lives of citizens. The plan to supply 1.19 million public housing units is based on a proposal from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on September 21, with a target completion date set for 2030.

He also expressed particular concern for financial support for low-income individuals, noting the potential difficulties that rising interest rates could pose for vulnerable borrowers. He called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lee Hyung-il to take appropriate measures. Additionally, he referenced the OECD's upward revision of South Korea's growth forecast to 3.7% for this year, stressing the need for the benefits of growth to reach all citizens.

President Lee stated, "We cannot halt the process of changing systems and practices simply because of strong resistance from vested interests. We must pursue these changes practically while seeking the understanding and participation of the public." He also indicated that the government's performance will be judged by actions and results, not just words.

Regarding his recent attendance at the United Nations General Assembly and state visit to Mexico, President Lee instructed relevant ministries to follow up on these engagements. He discussed key issues such as North Korea, nuclear power, and operational command with U.S. President Donald Trump, and noted the expansion of cooperation with Mexico.

In the defense sector, he mentioned the recent delivery of the KF-21 fighter jet on September 22 and called for accelerated development of advanced weapon systems, including nuclear submarines and hypersonic missiles.
