Daewoong Pharmaceutical has established an advanced biopharmaceutical production infrastructure in Songdo, Incheon.

The company announced on September 29 that it has opened a new 'Advanced Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility' at the Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo.

The opening ceremony, held the previous day, was attended by over 30 key officials from related organizations, including the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Regenerative Medicine Technology Development Project Group, and Yonsei University.

The Songdo facility is equipped with aseptic manufacturing and quality control systems. Its primary production items include stem cell and immune cell products for clinical research. Daewoong Pharmaceutical plans to complete the legal approvals for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and processing by the end of this year and begin full-scale operations.

Through this facility, Daewoong aims to connect its accumulated research achievements to clinical stages for patients and secure a stable production base for advanced biopharmaceutical materials needed for clinical research.

The company also plans to expand its global biopharmaceutical network by linking with overseas bases, including in Indonesia, covering research, clinical trials, and production. It intends to strengthen collaboration with universities, research institutions, and medical facilities by utilizing the research and medical infrastructure of the Songdo bio-cluster.

Lee Jun-mi, a director at the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Regenerative Medicine Policy Division, expressed hope during her speech that the facility would contribute to the development of the domestic advanced regenerative medicine industry based on thorough quality management and high-level manufacturing capabilities.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical CEO Park Sung-soo stated, "We will grow together with the biopharmaceutical ecosystem by collaborating with excellent researchers and key medical institutions based on the clinical research infrastructure connecting Yongin and Songdo."

Meanwhile, Daewoong continues to invest in R&D, having allocated 219.9 billion won to R&D last year, which accounted for 15.8% of its revenue, and spending 115.7 billion won in the first half of this year.
