DB Group is accelerating its efforts to develop artificial intelligence (AI) beyond just a tool for improving work efficiency, aiming to establish it as a new business sector. The company plans to connect its operations in system semiconductors, information technology (IT), insurance, and finance to cultivate AI data centers, AI agents, and AI solutions as the next growth pillars.

On September 29, DB Group held a 'DB Group AI Strategy Report Conference' at the DB Financial Center in Daechi-dong, Seoul, attended by key executives including Founder Kim Jun-ki and Group Chairman Lee Soo-kwang.

During the conference, the group’s AI advisory committee and a practical task force identified AI data centers, AI agents, and AI solutions as priority new business initiatives and shared the current status of their evaluations. Each subsidiary also presented examples of AI applications in their actual operations and businesses.

In the AI data center sector, discussions focused on utilizing the group's land and urban buildings. The model involves establishing and operating large-scale training data centers and edge data centers that process AI inference close to demand sources.

The AI agent business will be led by DB Inc.'s IT division, focusing on discovering business models that enhance productivity and efficiency, with plans to apply these models across the group’s subsidiaries.

Concrete AI projects are already underway in the semiconductor and insurance sectors. DB Insurance is currently operating an AI optical character recognition (OCR) system and an AI platform for insurance operations called 'Vecta.' In the hardware sector, the company is collaborating with Sungkyunkwan University to develop advanced semiconductor design and process technologies.

In April, DB Group opened the 'AI-PMIC & Sensor Center' with Sungkyunkwan University, initiating the development of power management semiconductors for on-device AI and three-dimensional sensors for physical AI, utilizing DB HiTek's power semiconductor processes. This marks an expansion of AI applications from improving financial and service operations to actual AI semiconductor development.

DB is also seeking to secure external technologies. Through its trading division's investment department, the group has invested in six leading technology venture companies related to AI. Moving forward, DB plans to secure necessary AI technologies and solutions through a combination of in-house development and external investments.

A DB representative stated, "If IT, foundry, and fabless companies can discover advanced businesses that will lead the AI era and implement these businesses in insurance, finance, manufacturing, and service sectors where abundant data is accumulated, the group’s AI competitiveness will be significantly enhanced."
