Attorney Kang Tae-wook Receives Award from Personal Information Protection Commission

Attorney Kang Tae-wook of Bae, Kim & Lee LLC (BKL) received an award from the Personal Information Protection Commission for his contributions to the development of data protection laws and systems.

The Personal Information Protection Commission held the 6th Personal Information Protection Day ceremony on September 30 at the L Tower in Yangjae, Seocho-gu, Seoul. The event, themed "AI Innovation Society Leaping Forward with Trust," was attended by over 300 individuals, including those recognized for their contributions to data protection and representatives from various sectors. Attorney Kang received his award during the ceremony.

Kang graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in law and completed his judicial training in the 31st class. He began his legal career as a judge in 2002 and joined BKL in 2007 after leaving public service. He advises on broadcasting, telecommunications, data privacy, gaming content, and intellectual property matters.

He has served as a legal advisor to the Personal Information Protection Commission and has been active in various government committees, contributing to the development of policies and systems for data protection and utilization. He has consistently participated in discussions on amendments to data protection laws and has been actively advising on regulatory issues related to artificial intelligence.

Recognized for his expertise, Kang was named the Data Privacy Lawyer of the Year at the Asia Legal Awards 2020, hosted by the global legal media outlet ALM. He has also been listed as a Leading Lawyer by prestigious legal ranking publications such as Chambers Global, Chambers Asia-Pacific, and The Legal 500. In 2025, he received an award from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for his contributions to the development of the content industry in South Korea.

Kang stated, "As the AI industry develops and data utilization expands, it is increasingly important to protect personal information safely and establish a reliable foundation for its use. I will continue to strive to contribute to the advancement of data protection systems and responsible utilization based on my field experience."
