Hyundai Wia has officially commenced operations at its new factory in Slovakia, aiming to strengthen its presence in the European market.
On September 30, Hyundai Wia held a mass production ceremony at its new facility in Martin, located in the Zilina region of Slovakia.
The Slovakian subsidiary has relocated its production facilities to the new plant in Martin, establishing a large-scale production system. Founded in April 2023, the subsidiary had previously produced constant velocity joints (CVJs) at another facility in Zilina. The decision to move to the new factory was made to proactively respond to medium- to long-term production volume increases and to secure a stable production base.
At the new facility, the Slovakian subsidiary will begin mass production of constant velocity joints and cooling modules. The plant has the capacity to produce up to 800,000 constant velocity joints and 280,000 cooling modules annually. Hyundai Wia plans to expand the production capacity of constant velocity joints by up to five times through continuous investment. The product range will also diversify, with plans to include HVAC modules in addition to cooling modules.
Through its Slovakian subsidiary, Hyundai Wia will supply constant velocity joints and thermal management components to global automakers, including Hyundai and Kia. The company aims to enhance its penetration into the European electrification market by supplying parts for dedicated electric vehicle models such as Kia's EV2 and EV4. Accordingly, the workforce is expected to grow from the current 98 employees to 410 by 2030.
“The Slovakian factory is a key production hub for Hyundai Wia in Europe,” said Kwon Oh-seong, CEO of Hyundai Wia. “We will become a trusted partner for European customers with our world-class technology and quality.”
