The KOSPI index rebounded to the 6,970 level after initially declining, buoyed by strong performance in semiconductor stocks following Micron's record quarterly results. The KOSDAQ also saw significant gains, rising over 4% driven by semiconductor and equipment shares.

On October 1, the KOSPI closed at 6,971.35, up 133.31 points (1.95%) from the previous trading day. The index started at 6,814.49, down 23.55 points (0.34%), but turned positive around 11:20 a.m., expanding its gains.

In the securities market, individual and foreign investors sold a net 1.71 trillion won and 336.7 billion won, respectively, while institutions were net buyers, purchasing 416.8 billion won.

Most of the top market capitalization stocks closed higher, including Samsung Electronics (up 2.79%), SK Hynix (up 3.21%), SK Square (up 1.40%), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (up 3.17%), LG Energy Solution (up 0.98%), Hyundai Motor (up 1.16%), Samsung Biologics (up 2.73%), and Samsung Life Insurance (up 0.71%). KB Financial Group, however, fell by 1.66%.

The KOSDAQ index also rose significantly, closing at 894.29, up 38.38 points (4.48%) from the previous day. It started at 853.96, down 1.95 points (0.23%), but quickly turned positive and increased its gains.

In the KOSDAQ market, foreign and institutional investors sold a net 327 billion won and 570.4 billion won, respectively, while individuals were net buyers, purchasing 878.8 billion won.

All major stocks in the KOSDAQ showed upward trends, including Alteogen (up 4.13%), EcoPro (up 5.58%), EcoPro BM (up 5.13%), JUSUNG Engineering (up 3.66%), Rainbow Robotics (up 5.02%), Wonik IPS (up 9.13%), EoTechnics (up 8.46%), Rino Technology (up 10.90%), Simtec (up 6.25%), and HPSP (up 8.32%).

Overnight, U.S. markets closed mixed as the August Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index fell short of market expectations, but long-term Treasury yields surged. However, Micron's record quarterly results, which exceeded market forecasts, improved investor sentiment in the domestic market, particularly for semiconductor stocks.

Micron reported fourth-quarter revenue for fiscal year 2026 (June to August) of $54.23 billion, surpassing the market estimate of $51.07 billion, according to data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

Lee Kyung-min, a researcher at Daishin Securities, stated, "The domestic market showed strength reflecting a series of positive news, with the KOSPI recovering the 6,900 level and the KOSDAQ rising for five consecutive trading days above 880."

He added, "While the 10-year and 30-year U.S. Treasury yields remain high at 5.28% and 5.62%, respectively, the upward trend has somewhat stabilized. If a slowdown is confirmed in the U.S. employment data on October 2, it is expected to support a downward stabilization of U.S. Treasury yields."
