Busan Port Authority (BPA) is significantly strengthening its operational collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and global terminal operator PSA International by integrating vessel arrival and departure data.

BPA announced that on October 1, it visited the MPA and met with Deputy Director Tan Hoe Soon to discuss data integration for optimizing vessel calls between Busan and Singapore ports, as well as cooperation in digital and eco-friendly initiatives.

The two organizations are working on a project to connect Busan's Port Community System (PCS), known as 'chainportal,' with Singapore's 'OCEANS-X' to exchange information on scheduled and actual vessel arrival and departure times.

The PCS is a digital platform designed for stakeholders in port logistics, including shipping companies, terminal operators, and transporters, to collaboratively utilize vessel and cargo information.

Previously, the two sides agreed on data integration in April, finalizing the information exchange and system connection methods, and have been developing and testing the system. They are currently in the final stages of verifying data exchange accuracy and plan to commence actual operations by the end of the year after security reviews.

After completing this Port Call Optimization (PCO) demonstration, BPA and MPA will also consider expanding their cooperation model to other national ports, aiming to establish a global model for linking and standardizing vessel data among major ports worldwide.

Collaboration in eco-friendly and decarbonization efforts was also a key agenda item. Currently, MPA is working on establishing alternative fuel supply systems and safety standards, as well as conducting trials with eco-friendly fuels. BPA is also expanding its infrastructure for supplying eco-friendly fuels and onshore power supply systems (OPS) at Busan Port and is electrifying its cargo handling equipment.

The two organizations plan to actively share relevant policies and practical experiences while continuously identifying additional collaboration opportunities.

Meanwhile, on the same day, BPA visited the headquarters of PSA International, which operates over 70 container terminals in 45 countries, and met with CEO Ong Kim Pong.

During this meeting, both sides shared trends in operating major transshipment ports and discussed ways to enhance terminal operational efficiency, exploring potential collaboration in port operations and digital transformation.

Song Sang-geun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, “The close cooperation between Busan and Singapore ports is leading to tangible results in system integration and data standardization between ports. We will strengthen our collaboration in global port operations and digital and eco-friendly initiatives, using the BPA Singapore branch, which opened on September 29, as a focal point.”
