KB Kookmin Bank recently confirmed that customer information had been exposed through unauthorized external access, according to financial authorities and industry sources Friday.
After detecting signs of abnormal activity, the bank blocked the affected server and the route used to access it.
The leaked information came from an internal mobile system used by employees. The bank said the incident was unrelated to customer transactions, including internet and mobile banking.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) and Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) received a report on the breach from the bank and are discussing follow-up measures.
The case followed Shinhan Bank's disclosure a day earlier that personal and credit information linked to about 25,000 customers had been exposed in a cyberattack involving an artificial intelligence (AI) agent.
Shinhan said the compromised data included information related to loan applications. The bank later apologized and pledged to compensate customers for any losses linked to the breach.
The incidents have put focus on cybersecurity at the country's largest commercial banks.
Financial authorities are conducting an on-site review to determine whether further damage occurred.
