Yeongam's Dalmaji Park has unveiled a new 900-meter accessible path designed for individuals with mobility challenges, including the elderly and disabled.

The Yeongam County government announced the completion of the accessible path project on September 30, which was supported by the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Forest Welfare Institute's green fund initiative.

The project aimed to enhance the park's accessibility for residents facing mobility difficulties, such as the elderly and people with disabilities.

A total of 4.2953 billion won was invested in the project, which included the renovation of 560 meters of existing pathways and the construction of an additional 370 meters, effectively connecting the walking paths within Dalmaji Park.

Notably, the paths were designed with a slope of less than 8% to reduce the burden of movement.

The approximately 500-meter section from Gukilgwan to the moon sculpture is now accessible for wheelchair users. The county expects this improvement will significantly enhance access for mobility-impaired individuals.

Yeongam County plans to integrate the newly established accessible path with the existing green spaces in Dalmaji Park, creating an area where residents can enjoy both walking and relaxation.

Hwang Eui-song, head of the Yeongam County Forest Recreation Division, stated, "We created the accessible path to ensure that residents visiting Dalmaji Park can enjoy their walks and relaxation without mobility issues. We will carefully manage the facilities to ensure everyone can use them comfortably."

The accessible path initiative aims to improve access to forest and green spaces for the elderly and disabled. Yeongam County will continuously monitor the new facilities to address any inconveniences and ensure they are well integrated with the existing park landscape.
