The Dongbu Market night market in Mokpo, which attracted over 10,000 visitors during its 12 sessions in the first half of the year, has reopened for the fall season after a summer break.

The city of Mokpo announced that the 'Sweet Night Market' will operate every Friday and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. until November 7.

This night market will feature around 18 booths showcasing Mokpo's local food and products from small businesses.

Food stalls will offer regional specialties such as hongeo-samhap, yukhoe, and sashimi, alongside a flea market run by local vendors.

In addition to food, cultural performances and interactive programs for families and young visitors will be available.

Each night market session will include a prize draw, and a stamp tour linked to the Mokpo Port Festival will encourage visitors to explore the traditional market as part of their local tourism experience.

The Dongbu Market previously hosted the 'Starry Night Market' 12 times in the first half of the year, successfully drawing visitors to the traditional market during evening hours.

The 'Sweet Night Market' is part of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' '2026 Traditional Market Specialization Project (Cultural Tourism Market)'.

Mokpo plans to enhance the competitiveness of Dongbu Market through initiatives such as creating customer rest areas, providing training for merchants, campaigning against overpricing, and promoting both online and offline.

Mayor Kang Seong-hwi stated, "I hope the Sweet Night Market revitalizes the traditional market and becomes a popular destination for both citizens and tourists. We will implement the traditional market specialization project effectively to boost market competitiveness and invigorate the local economy."

Meanwhile, Mokpo aims to operate the Dongbu Market night market not just as a food sales venue but as a nighttime tourism content that combines performances, experiences, and flea markets. The city plans to expand operations to attract festival visitors to the traditional market, ultimately increasing sales for local small businesses.
