Jung Jeom-sik Calls for Resignations of Key Ministers Over Policy Failures

Jung Jeom-sik, the floor leader of the People Power Party, called on October 11 for the resignations of Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Song Mi-ryung, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung, and Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Ok-kwon. He also urged the dismissal of Minister of Unification Chung Dong-young and National Intelligence Service Director Lee Jong-seok, labeling them as 'pro-North Korea.'

During a press conference at the National Assembly, Jung stated, "Minister Song should resign over the agricultural disaster, Minister Yoon over the public safety disaster, and Chairman Lee over the stock market disaster."

He assessed that the recent first week of the National Assembly audit revealed the Lee Jae-myung administration's lack of capability, conscience, and accountability, filled with hasty, makeshift solutions and excuses. He pointed out, "The most notable aspect of last week's audit was the three major policy disasters caused by the hasty administration of the Lee Jae-myung government."

Jung defined the three major policy disasters as: the stock market disaster resulting from the hasty introduction of single-item leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the agricultural disaster related to the comprehensive land survey, and the public safety disaster due to the rushed establishment of the serious crime investigation agency, demanding the resignation of the respective ministers.

He added, "If the resignation demands are seen as unfair, I hope they will reveal to the public who the true culprits behind the three major policy disasters are during the remaining audit period."

Jung also criticized Minister Song for suggesting that the recent landmine provocation by North Korea's western front demilitarized zone (DMZ) was difficult to judge as an 'intentional attack.' He stated, "On October 8, during a UN meeting, the North Korean representative quoted Minister Song's remarks to deny the DMZ provocation and invasion, displaying a defiant attitude. Minister Song's pro-North remarks have resulted in aiding the enemy."

He expressed concern that the Korea-U.S. alliance, now in its 73rd year, is facing a serious crisis under the Lee Jae-myung administration. He claimed, "The Lee Jae-myung government is exacerbating the crisis in the Korea-U.S. alliance by choosing actions favored by North Korea and Russia in the areas of diplomacy, security, and economy," and insisted that the pro-North Minister Song and Director Lee should be dismissed, along with a complete abandonment of policies like 'medical support' to North Korea.

He emphasized the need for countermeasures against the landmine provocation, such as installing loudspeakers directed at North Korea and independently sanctioning North Korea's illegal cyber activities.
