A man in his twenties, who was living separately from his wife due to a domestic violence lawsuit, was arrested after allegedly killing his mother-in-law and kidnapping his wife.

According to Yonhap News, the Songpa Police in Seoul arrested a man in his mid-twenties, identified as A, in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province, on charges of murder and kidnapping.

A is accused of stabbing his mother-in-law, a woman in her fifties, with a knife at around 5:38 a.m. on the 11th, while she was at her home in Songpa, where his wife, B, was hiding. He then allegedly forced B into a vehicle and fled the scene.

Police responded to a 112 emergency call reporting that a man was trying to drag a woman away and that a woman was lying on the ground. They transported the injured mother-in-law to the hospital, but she later died.

After a coordinated investigation, police apprehended A at around 12:35 p.m. in a mountainous area of Yangyang County. B sustained minor injuries but was reported to be safe.

A was in the process of filing for annulment of his marriage while living apart from B when the incident occurred.

Upon being transported to the Songpa Police Station at around 6:30 p.m., A responded to reporters' questions about why he killed his mother-in-law, whether he planned the crime, and if he felt remorse for the victim by stating, "I will explain everything during the investigation."

A police official from Songpa stated, "We will investigate the motive and whether the crime was premeditated."
