HD Hyundai has established a key hub to lead the digital transformation of the shipbuilding industry in collaboration with Siemens Digital Industries Software.

On October 13, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai's shipbuilding division, announced the opening of the Global Marine Center in Haeundae, Busan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Hyung-kwan, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and Robert Jones, Chief Revenue Officer of Siemens, along with executives and officials from both companies. Siemens provides solutions that accelerate digital transformation.

The Global Marine Center is designed to accelerate the digital innovation of the shipbuilding industry by combining HD Hyundai's technical expertise in shipbuilding and marine sectors with Siemens' digital engineering technology. About 50 specialists from both companies will work together on ship production and design, including hull, electrical, piping, and accommodation, as well as AI platforms and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Through this collaboration, the two companies plan to enhance the next-generation marine platform, integrating data from the entire process of ship design, production, and maintenance into 3D models. They also aim to implement a digital shipyard that allows for pre-application and verification of production processes and equipment operations in a virtual environment, promoting the transition to an intelligent shipyard across all production operations.

To support this initiative, HD Hyundai will strengthen cooperation with its group companies. The HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Pangyo will provide technological strategies and foundational technologies for the next-generation marine platform, while the Ulsan shipyard and the Yeongam shipyard will validate the platform's functionality and efficiency, minimizing risks during the on-site application process.

Kim Hyung-kwan stated, "The next-generation marine platform will play a key role in enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of shipyards by pre-validating the entire ship design and production process in a digital environment. We plan to accelerate the realization of the next-generation intelligent shipyard by combining HD Hyundai's accumulated shipbuilding expertise with Siemens' digital capabilities, centered around the Global Marine Center."

Robert Jones also remarked, "Shipbuilding is one of the most complex industries, with processes from design to production. Digital technology can have the greatest impact in this area. Through long-term cooperation between our two companies, we will lead the digital transformation of the shipbuilding industry."
