The construction project for the 'Gwanggyo Sports Center and Complex Facilities,' which includes a swimming pool, a multipurpose gymnasium, and the administrative welfare center for Sanghyun 3-dong, has received conditional approval from the Gyeonggi Province Local Financial Investment Review.

Yongin City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 13th that the project passed the conditional approval during the Gyeonggi Province's third regular financial investment review for 2026 held at the end of last month.

Projects involving significant local financial investment must undergo this review to assess their necessity, feasibility, and funding plans.

The province suggested improvements for efficient management and operation of the complex facilities, user convenience, facility safety, and energy efficiency during the review. The city plans to incorporate these suggestions into the design process and detail the management and operation plans for each facility.

According to the city’s plan, the facilities will be built on a 6,155 square meter site at 1222 Sanghyun-dong, with two underground floors and five above-ground floors, totaling a floor area of 18,263 square meters. The complex will include a swimming pool with ten 25-meter lanes, a multipurpose gymnasium, and the administrative welfare center and community center for Sanghyun 3-dong. The total project cost is estimated at 102.8 billion won, which includes 24.9 billion won from the profits of the Gwanggyo district development project.

The city plans to gradually advance follow-up procedures starting next year, including feasibility studies for construction, commissioning architectural planning services, and establishing management plans for public property, with relevant budgets allocated in the 2027 main budget. Following this, design competitions and basic and detailed designs will be conducted starting in 2028, with construction expected to begin in 2030 and completion targeted for July 2032.

Since the division of Sanghyun 3-dong in 2021, administrative demand has increased. The city expects that the establishment of the administrative welfare center and community space will enhance convenience for residents.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "Reinvesting the profits from the Gwanggyo new town development into local public facilities is a model case of urban development," and added, "We will expedite the follow-up procedures to create a complex public facility that citizens can conveniently use."
