The Korean Chemical Industry Association organized a seminar to share industry outlooks with domestic and international chemical experts in response to uncertainties in the global raw material market and trade environment.

On October 13, the association held the '2026 Second Half Chemical Industry Outlook Seminar' at the FKI Tower conference center in Yeouido, Seoul.

The seminar aimed to discuss challenges related to carbon neutrality, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, as well as provide insights into key raw material markets such as crude oil, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), along with the global petrochemical industry outlook. Approximately 150 attendees, including association members and industry professionals, participated in the event.

In the first session, Shin Seok-min, president of the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, presented on 'Carbon Neutrality Convergence Strategies for the Domestic Chemical Industry.' Following that, Lee Yoon-nam, head of the ESG Center at the law firm Bae, Kim & Lee, introduced strategies for enhancing the competitiveness of the chemical industry in light of carbon neutrality and ESG regulations.

The second session focused on raw materials, featuring a presentation by Jang Tae-hoon, a researcher at the Korea Energy Economics Institute, on the current status and outlook of domestic and international oil supply and demand. Sim Han-je, a manager at Daehan Oil, discussed the naphtha market, while Jeon Pyeong-heum, a manager at SK Gas, addressed the role of LPG in enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic chemical industry.

The third session on petrochemicals included discussions on the 2027 global petrochemical market outlook, featuring experts from the global market research firm ICIS and Dow Jones Energy.

Um Chan-wang, vice president of the Korean Chemical Industry Association, stated, 'I hope this seminar provides attendees with a deeper understanding of the rapidly changing industrial environment and insights for proactive responses from the industry.' He emphasized that the association will continue to strengthen communication with member companies to respond proactively to the rapidly changing industrial landscape.

Since 2017, the chemical industry outlook seminar has been held twice a year to share global industry trends with association members and industry professionals.
