Two hundred fourteen experts from businesses, creative fields, academia, and research institutions have launched the first Cultural Technology Alliance.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency's Korean Cultural Technology Planning and Evaluation Institute held the launch ceremony for the alliance on October 15 at the Eliena Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.

As artificial intelligence (AI) presents new possibilities and challenges in content planning, production, distribution, and consumption, the ministry established the alliance to promote research and development (R&D) policies focused on 'culture-driven AI.'

The alliance comprises representatives from large, medium, and small enterprises, individual creators, and experts from academia and research institutions. The research and development needs identified through the alliance will be evaluated for market viability, urgency, and technical feasibility, and prioritized for inclusion in mid- to long-term cultural technology investment strategies and new R&D projects planned for 2028.

The first phase of the alliance is organized into four subcommittees: game interactive content, video and media content, music and performance content, and narrative source content. A separate strategic planning group will operate to gather input from all committee members and derive tailored strategies and long-term investment directions through in-depth discussions.

The game interactive content subcommittee includes Nexon Korea, Smilegate, Softgen, Dobi Canvas, Bus8 Korea, Story Taco, Myongji University, and the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.

The video and media content subcommittee features CJ ENM, CJ 4DPLEX, MBC C&I, Giant Step, Studio Freewill, Art Center Nabi, Chung-Ang University, and the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute.

The music and performance content subcommittee includes Kakao Entertainment, SBS, Galaxy Corporation, Meta Rocket, Gaudio Lab, New Tune, the Korea Research Institute of Sound, Music, and AI Convergence, and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology.

The narrative source content subcommittee comprises Writer Company, Muhayu, Hanter Global, Hive Mind, A2Z Entertainment, Korea University, and Pusan National University.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young stated, “The needs of the cultural field and the imagination of creators should guide the direction of AI technology development. We will incorporate the challenges identified by businesses, creators, and researchers into our R&D policies to address real-world issues and create new content and business opportunities.”
