Hong Ji-sun, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited Gwangju Airport in Jeollanam-do on October 15 to inspect the progress of the semiconductor national industrial complex project in the Honam region. The minister stated that the government plans to supply land for the industrial complex in a timely manner to align with corporate investment schedules, while also improving transportation networks and living conditions, and expanding essential infrastructure such as power and water.

According to the Ministry of Land, the Honam semiconductor national industrial complex was designated as a candidate site and preliminary project implementer at the end of July. Planning and design for the complex began on October 1, in response to the 800 trillion won semiconductor fab investment plan announced during the mega project national briefing in June.

During her visit, Minister Hong encouraged Air Force personnel at the 1st Combat Wing of Gwangju Airport and examined the airport facilities and land status from the control tower. She also inspected the site of a potential development area, specifically the location of a munitions depot.

"The key is to develop the industrial complex land at an unprecedented speed and provide it on time according to corporate investment schedules," Minister Hong said. She added, "We plan to create sufficient land reflecting corporate demand during the planning process for the industrial complex."

Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of ensuring that corporate investments lead to tangible regional growth by simultaneously advancing transportation network expansions and improvements in living conditions. "We will actively cooperate to ensure that essential infrastructure such as power and water is supplied on time," she stated.
