SEOUL, October 16 (AJP) - A fire at a factory in Bucheon, just west of Seoul, left seven people injured on Friday including a firefighter who suffered cardiac arrest, according to fire authorities.

The blaze broke out at around 8:40 a.m. at a four-story metal-parts painting factory, prompting authorities to deploy about 80 firefighters.

Two firefighters were seriously injured including one who was rushed to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest. Three other firefighters and two factory workers sustained minor injuries.

The factory reportedly stored flammable materials, raising concerns about the potential spread of the fire, although the main blaze was brought under control roughly two hours after it broke out.

After being briefed on the incident, President Lee Jae Myung instructed relevant agencies including the National Fire Agency and the National Police Agency, to spare no effort in putting out the fire and rescuing anyone in danger, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written press briefing.

Lee also called for thorough measures to prevent further damage, pointing to combustible materials inside the factory, and urged officials to ensure the safety of firefighters deployed to the scene.

Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the blaze once the fire has been fully extinguished.
