SEOUL, October 17 (AJP) - U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that Hyundai Transys, an auto parts affiliate of Hyundai Motor, plans to invest US$560 million to expand its facilities in Georgia, touting the project as an example of growing foreign investment in the U.S.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, Trump said, "Hyundai just announced it will invest $560 million to expand its factories in West Point, Georgia."

His remarks came after Georgia governor Brian Kemp's office announced the investment plan last week. Under the plan, Hyundai Transys will modernize two existing manufacturing facilities in West Point and build a third plant to expand production of powertrains for hybrid vehicles, creating "320 new jobs as part of its ongoing efforts to support global automotive customers with operations in North America."

"The Hyundai family of brands has been an incredible partner to Georgia, and this decision by Hyundai Transys only reinforces that valued friendship," said the governor in a statement on Oct. 8. "As the automotive manufacturing industry continues to make historic investments in our state, this facility will further enhance the strength of that ecosystem and allow Hyundai and Kia to grow their already impressive capacity here in Georgia."

With the Nov. 3 midterm elections just weeks away, Trump has repeatedly held up such investment plans and pledges as proof that foreign companies are pouring money into the U.S., using them to promote his administration's economic achievements amid declining public support.

Trump also praised the achievements of his second term, saying the U.S. is "doing so well under Republican leadership."
