The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has begun an on-site inspection of OK Savings Bank, where over 500 customers' information was leaked due to repeated hacking incidents.

According to financial authorities on October 18, the FSS initiated the inspection on October 16 after receiving reports of a second hacking incident at OK Savings Bank. They are currently assessing the circumstances of the incident and the extent of the damage. Depending on the findings, they may consider transitioning to a formal investigation.

Previously, OK Savings Bank was targeted by a hacking attack on its loan application webpage on the night of October 11. Just four days later, on October 15, additional hacking was confirmed on a page related to mobile reception services.

The first attack resulted in the leak of personal information from 250 customers, including names, birth dates, addresses, annual income, and loan amounts. Initially, it was believed that 183 customers were affected, but further investigation revealed the number had increased to 250.

On the morning of October 15, abnormal access attempts were detected on the mobile reception services page, leading to the additional leak of information from 268 customers. The leaked data included names, account numbers, product names, balances, interest rates, and last transaction dates. Consequently, the total number of affected customers has risen to 518.

The FSS is mobilizing available personnel to prioritize inspections of financial institutions with significant damage. Currently, Shinhan Bank, which has seen the leak of information from approximately 25,000 customers, and KB Kookmin Bank, with 119 affected customers, are undergoing separate inspections. On-site inspections at Yeogaram Savings Bank and Welcome Savings Bank began on October 13. A meeting with the financial sector is expected this week to discuss comprehensive inspections of external interfaces and follow-up measures in response to the hacking incidents.
