Naver is expanding the capabilities of its Papago translation service to assist foreign tourists visiting South Korea in exploring products and locations.

On October 19, Naver announced the launch of its 'Trend' service within the Papago app, designed to help foreign users find popular products and places, as well as facilitate visits and reservations.

Papago Trend allows foreign tourists to explore popular items and locations while also checking reviews from domestic users, helping them decide what to buy and where to visit in Korea.

Users with their device language set to a foreign language can access the Trend feature by clicking the 'Trend' button in the top right corner of the Papago app's home screen. The service supports four languages: English, Japanese, and simplified and traditional Chinese. In other foreign language settings, it will be provided in English.

Trend showcases popular products and locations based on image translation data from foreign users. It provides information that foreign tourists can reference during their travels in Korea, based on actual products and places they have searched using the image translation feature.

The product categories include: 100 popular items, trending products, beauty, food, and health. Users can view items that have high image translation usage and those that have recently gained interest, along with products in the beauty, food, and health sectors. Selecting a product allows users to access key information through an AI briefing provided in their device language. They can also connect to related blog content and Naver Shopping for detailed reviews and product information.

Naver is integrating its AI and services with Papago's translation technology to enhance functionality from information understanding to product and location exploration. In April, it introduced a feature that provides restaurant and store information from Naver Place alongside AI briefing-based product information in image translation results. In July, it expanded the functionality to allow users to capture images of Japanese signs or products to access restaurant information from Tabelog and AI briefing-based product information.
