More than 40 foreign tourists traveled by train to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. This railway tourism program was organized by Korail Tourism Networks in collaboration with Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) and Yeoncheon County. The three organizations aim to regularly operate DMZ tourism products for foreign visitors.

Korail Tourism Networks announced on the 19th that it conducted the 'DMZ Train Yeoncheon Tour' on the 17th, which included foreign tourists and social media supporters.

This tour is part of a collaborative project that began last year and marks the third event following one held in July. Yeoncheon is designated as a population decline area by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and is home to historical and security tourism resources related to the DMZ, as well as the Hantan River Global Geopark.

Participants took the DMZ train from Seoul Station to Munsan Station and then toured the Yeoncheon area by bus. At Jeonggok Traditional Market, they used a 10,000 won gift certificate to purchase local specialties and enjoyed lunch.

They also visited the Typhoon Observatory for views of North Korea and the Jaein Waterfall, part of a UNESCO Global Geopark. Activities on the train included a photo session in military uniforms and a quiz related to the DMZ. A foreign language guide accompanied the entire tour.

Korail Tourism Networks managed the travel package and on-site operations, while GKL handled recruitment and promotion for foreign participants, and Yeoncheon County provided transportation and cultural tour guides.

The three organizations plan to establish regular DMZ rail tourism products for foreign visitors.

Meanwhile, Korail Tourism Networks has also launched a mobile QR code guidance service at Ilyeong Station since the 1st of this month.

Commuters can scan QR codes installed at the station with their smartphones to check train schedules and fares. A foreign language guidance page is also available.

This initiative replaces traditional paper guides with a mobile format, aiming to reduce printed material usage. However, specific figures regarding reductions in paper usage or carbon emissions have not been disclosed.

Korail Tourism Networks plans to enhance the guidance service based on user surveys and gradually expand the application of QR codes.
