Toss has introduced a protective service to detect risky transactions at the transfer stage to prevent illegal gambling among youth.
On October 20, Toss announced the launch of its 'Our Child Guardian' service aimed at protecting underage members from illegal gambling.
This service is designed to enhance protection for younger users, considering the trend of decreasing age for the onset of illegal gambling among adolescents.
The service targets individuals aged 7 to 18. If a minor attempts to transfer money to a suspected illegal gambling account, a warning screen will appear before the transaction is completed. This screen informs users about the risks associated with the account and the potential penalties for transferring gambling funds, encouraging them to halt the transaction. The service also includes features to cancel the transfer or report the account.
Additionally, Toss has established a separate reporting channel on its app and website. Reports received will undergo internal verification and be reflected in the risk account information and the Fraud Detection System (FDS).
For members under 14, a guardian notification feature is also provided. If a transfer is attempted to an account confirmed as a gambling fund recipient, a notification will be sent to the legally authorized representative who has given prior consent. The guardian will receive minimal information, including the attempt to transact, the type of risk, and the time of occurrence.
Toss plans to utilize the detection and reporting data to enhance the FDS and share relevant results with financial supervisory authorities to improve responses to youth illegal gambling and related regulations.
A Toss representative stated, "Younger adolescents often struggle to assess the risks and legality of gambling, so mechanisms for early intervention by guardians are necessary. We will continue to strengthen our youth protection system."
