A father in his 40s has been charged with child abuse murder after allegedly beating his 2-month-old daughter to death.

The Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency announced on October 20 that they have transferred the case of a company employee, identified as A, to prosecutors on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (child abuse murder).

A was seen leaving the Yongin Dongbu Police Station around 8:54 a.m. wearing a black hat and mask. When asked by reporters if he had any intention to kill, he replied, "No." He also responded with an apology when questioned about whether he deleted home camera footage to conceal the crime and if he had anything to say to his family.

When asked if he had any final words for his deceased daughter, he said, "I'm so sorry, Daddy is really sorry," before getting into a police vehicle.

A is accused of repeatedly striking his daughter, identified as B, on the face and head with both hands more than ten times at their home in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, in the early hours of October 11.

After the incident, A reported that the child was not breathing. She was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest but was pronounced dead. Following the incident, he deleted the footage from the home camera that recorded the crime.

However, during the investigation, police were able to recover the deleted footage through digital forensics. The restored video reportedly contained sounds consistent with A striking the baby, along with her cries.

In police questioning, A stated that he committed the act because his daughter was crying and would not sleep.

A's wife was reportedly asleep in another room and was unaware of the assault.

As a result, police determined that A exhibited reckless intent to kill, leading to a change in the charges from child abuse manslaughter to child abuse murder.
