Jaseng Medical Foundation provided traditional Korean medical services and cultural performances to 100 nurses who returned to Korea for the 60th anniversary of the dispatch of Korean nurses to Germany.

On October 20, the foundation held the '2026 Commemorative Event for the 60th Anniversary of Korean Nurses in Germany' for members of the Korean Nurses Association in Germany, as announced on the 21st.

The nurses, who traveled to Germany from 1966 to the 1970s, were young women seeking new opportunities to support their families. They worked three shifts in local hospitals, often in unfamiliar environments, and dedicated themselves to learning German to communicate with patients and medical staff.

The foreign currency they sent back home not only supported their families but also contributed to South Korea's economic development. More than 10,000 nurses were dispatched to Germany between 1966 and 1976.

The Jaseng Medical Foundation organized this event to express gratitude for their long-standing dedication and to allow the nurses, who cared for others' health, to focus on their own well-being during their visit to Korea.

Earlier, the foundation and the Korean Nurses Association in Germany signed a 'Medical Support Agreement for the 60th Anniversary of Korean Nurses in Germany' in May. The foundation committed to supporting the nurses' health during their stay in Korea and participating in community service activities to honor their 60 years of service.

The event began with traditional Korean medical services at the Jaseng Medi-Bio Center. The nurses were divided into four groups of 25 and received integrated Korean medicine treatments, including acupuncture, herbal injections, and chuna therapy from the medical staff at Jaseng Hospital.

Participants, many of whom have endured musculoskeletal pain from years of hospital work, consulted closely with the medical staff about their symptoms. After their medical experience, the nurses took a walk in Bundang Central Park and attended a traditional hanbok presentation ceremony. Dressed in hanbok provided by the Jaseng Volunteer Group, they took commemorative photos with their colleagues, creating lasting memories of their visit to their homeland.

Park So-hyang, president of the Korean Nurses Association in Germany, stated, "It will be a memorable experience to dress in hanbok with my colleagues and share memories in our homeland after 60 years."

Shin Min-sik, chair of the Social Contribution Committee at Jaseng Medical Foundation, expressed deep respect for the nurses, saying, "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Korean nurses who dedicated themselves to their families and homeland while caring for patients in a foreign land."
