The People Power Party is establishing a task force to protect victims of relationship crimes, including stalking and domestic violence.

Jung Jeom-sik, the party's floor leader, announced this plan on October 21 during a discussion hosted by the party's Gender Equality and Family Committee titled 'Relationship Crimes, Recurring Female Victims, and the State's Responsibility.'

Jung stated, "We will create a task force centered around the Gender Equality Committee to pursue legislation for crime prevention and victim protection."

He added, "Concerns about crimes against women have increased due to the abolition of the prosecution's supplementary investigative powers, but current protective measures are insufficient to address these risks. We must manage high-risk offenders at all stages—before, during, and after protective measures—and completely separate victims from offenders to prevent crimes from occurring in the first place."

Im Yi-ja, the policy committee chair, emphasized that simply including victim protection provisions in the law is not enough. "Collaboration among law enforcement, budget allocation, and institutions responsible for enforcement must be established," she said. She promised to address issues such as sharing on-site risk signals among police, judicial authorities, and probation agencies, as well as gaps between protective measures and actual protection, and to review personnel and budget needs.

Kim Jeong-jae, chair of the Gender Equality Committee, suggested the need to develop a system for assessing the dangers of relationship crimes and to consider the introduction of a judicial hospitalization system for high-risk offenders with mental illnesses.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party also appointed former prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun as co-chair of its special committee on eradicating relationship crimes, which was established to address issues of dating violence and stalking. She will work alongside Song Ok-joo, who was appointed as co-chair earlier.
