SEOUL, October 22 (AJP) - North Korea would place loudspeakers along the border with South Korea on standby within days, state media reported on Thursday.

In a statement carried by the state-run [North] Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister Yo-jong said, "Our tactical hunting teams are taking new positions, and within October, the loudspeakers for psychological warfare against [South Korea] will be in operation along the whole border."

The fresh warning came after she had earlier threatened that Pyongyang would resume psychological warfare broadcasts along the border later this month.

Accusing Seoul of interfering with North Korea's construction work to fortify the border, Kim defended it as necessary to reduce the risk of military clashes. "Our army is carrying out a crucial and great undertaking in the face of the enemy's persistent threats," KCNA quoted her as saying.

"If the border is fortified, the danger of military conflict in this area will undoubtedly be eliminated," she added.

She also warned South Korea to be prepared for "everything" if it made even a "mistake."

North Korea began reinforcing the inter-Korean border in April 2024, installing barriers, laying mines and strengthening fences along the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), following its leader's declaration that the two Koreas should be regarded as "hostile states" rather than brethren seeking reunification.

Tensions have escalated after landmine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) last month injured three South Korean soldiers. Seoul has blamed North Korea for planting the mines, while Pyongyang has denied responsibility and accused the South of shifting the blame in what it called a "fabricated farce."
