CJ Logistics announced on October 22 that its construction division has secured a contract for the construction of KT Cloud's artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Ansan.

The project involves the development of a hyperscale AI data center with a power supply capacity of 50 MW and an IT load capacity of 32 MW, located in the Banwol National Industrial Complex in Ansan. The facility will consist of two underground floors and nine above-ground floors, covering a total area of approximately 36,879 square meters, with an expected construction period of about 38 months. The completion target is set for 2029.

KT Cloud, the client for the project, plans to use the facility upon its completion. The company aims to supply a total of 1 GW of AI data centers by 2031, expanding its operations in both the metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas.

CJ Logistics will handle civil engineering, architecture, landscaping, and mechanical installation work. The company plans to conduct commissioning up to Level 3, which includes verifying the initial operation and normal functioning of individual equipment.

This contract is expected to enhance CJ Logistics' track record in data center construction. The company has been expanding its related projects since starting the Gabia Consortium data center project in 2022, and it completed the KT Cloud Gyeongbuk AI data center in 2024.

Recently, CJ Logistics has also entered the remodeling business, converting existing buildings into data centers. In August, it secured a contract to convert a low-temperature logistics center into an edge data center in Hanam, and this month, it won a contract to transform a semiconductor substrate circuit factory into the Ansan Our Data Center.

The construction site for the Ansan AI data center will incorporate digital technologies such as a drone station, AI-based process management tools, and four-dimensional building information modeling (4D BIM).

The drone station will automatically manage the flight, photography, charging, and data transmission of drones according to a set schedule. This will be used to document construction progress and assess site hazards.

CJ Logistics will also introduce its self-developed AI-based process management tool, 'Construction Process Navigation,' which aims to minimize task omissions and delays by managing work priorities and progress for each process. Currently, the company is utilizing 4D BIM, which combines three-dimensional BIM with time and process information, to establish construction plans.

Min Young-hak, CEO of CJ Logistics' construction division, stated, "We are expanding our business into data centers, which are key infrastructures in the AI era, based on the technology and expertise we have built from constructing over 30 office facilities in Seoul's core business districts. We will strengthen our competitiveness in constructing data centers of various scales, from urban edge to hyperscale, through new builds and repurposing projects."
