Uiwang Mayor Kim Seong-je on October 21 initiated efforts to promote community-led governance and enhance communication with community committee members.

Mayor Kim hosted the '2026 Uiwang City Community Committee Workshop' at the Rabidoll Hotel in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, attended by over 130 members from six community committees.

The workshop aimed to encourage community committee members who have worked for local development and unity, sharing best practices and experiences to explore ways to enhance community-centered governance and local community activation.

During the event, Mayor Kim expressed gratitude for the committee members' on-the-ground efforts and emphasized the importance of reflecting residents' voices in governance and spreading a culture of community-led governance.

"Thanks to the dedication of community committee members, Uiwang City has become a warmer and more livable city," Mayor Kim said. "Community governance is a crucial foundation for realizing grassroots democracy, starting with listening to the voices of residents."

The event included awards for outstanding committee members who contributed to community governance, as well as sharing key activities and experiences from each district to strengthen collaboration and exchange.

Participants also engaged in a stroll through the Our Flower Botanical Garden and attended a special lecture concert on humanities and popera, reflecting on the significance of communication and unity.

Currently, the six community committees in Uiwang City are undertaking various activities tailored to local characteristics, including organizing village festivals, volunteer services for vulnerable groups, and identifying community agendas.

Through these initiatives, they aim to expand resident participation, collaboratively identify and resolve local issues, and promote community activation.

Mayor Kim added, "I will continue to actively work to ensure that a culture of community-led governance takes root in our society."

Furthermore, Mayor Kim plans to strengthen communication with community committee members based on the shared experiences and best practices from this workshop, supporting ongoing community governance activities that reflect local characteristics.
