Young South Koreans are finding it harder to secure their first permanent job as employers increasingly favor experienced hires, according to a Bank of Korea study released Monday.

Among 25- to 29-year-olds who had graduated from or left school, the adjusted number entering their first permanent job fell to 45 per 1,000 in 2023-26 from 48 in 2014-19. By contrast, permanent-job entry among workers with previous experience rose to 121 per 1,000 from 102.
