Asung Daiso has begun construction on the Yangju Hub Center, a large-scale integrated logistics facility for both online and offline operations.
On October 26, Asung Daiso held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Yangju Hub Center at the Eunnam Industrial Complex in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province.
The Eunnam Industrial Complex, where the Yangju Hub Center will be located, is being developed in the Dohari and Sangsu-ri areas of Eunyeon-myeon, Yangju. It is well-known for its excellent accessibility to major transportation networks, including the Gwangjeok IC of the Second Gyeonggi Circular Highway and the Seoul-Yangju Expressway.
Asung Daiso plans to invest a total of 600 billion won in the construction of the Yangju Hub Center, which is expected to be completed by January 2029. The company anticipates that the center will create around 1,000 jobs, contributing positively to the local economy and industrial ecosystem.
The Yangju Hub Center will be the largest logistics facility among Asung Daiso's centers. It will be the fourth hub center built, following the Namsa Hub Center, Busan Hub Center, and Sejong Hub Center. Once operational, it will supply products to over 800 Daiso stores in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, while also handling 50,000 daily orders from Daiso Mall.
The center will cover a land area of 111,600 square meters (approximately 33,759 pyeong) and have a total floor area of 206,102 square meters (approximately 62,346 pyeong), consisting of four above-ground floors and one basement level.
It will feature an 'omnichannel' logistics system that integrates both offline and online orders, allowing for the combined use of inventory and logistics facilities, unlike traditional methods that separate logistics for offline and online operations.
The center will incorporate a high-speed shuttle system (OSR) and automated product supply system (GTP) from global logistics automation company Knapp, as well as an order distribution system (ODS). It is designed to process 20,000 orders per hour using 478 high-speed shuttles and 46 lifts, with a system that automatically delivers products to workers to enhance sorting and shipping efficiency.
The Namsa Hub Center, which opened in December 2012, serves the Seoul metropolitan and Gangwon regions, while the Busan Hub Center, which opened in September 2019, covers the Yeongnam and Honam regions. The Sejong Hub Center, scheduled to open in April 2027, will handle logistics for the Chungcheong region and southern Seoul, as well as Daiso Mall.
The daily order processing capacity of existing logistics centers is 230,000 for the Namsa Hub Center, 320,000 for the Busan Hub Center, and 300,000 for the Sejong Hub Center, while the Yangju Hub Center aims to handle 350,000 orders daily.
Meanwhile, Asung Daiso, which operates Daiso, reported sales of 4.5364 trillion won and an operating profit of 442.4 billion won last year, marking a 14.3% increase in sales and a 19.2% increase in operating profit compared to the previous year.
Park Jeong-bu, chairman of Asung Daiso, stated, "We are breaking ground on the Yangju Hub Center, our fourth logistics center, to establish a foundation for the continuous expansion of Asung Daiso's business. We will strive to ensure that the Yangju Hub Center grows alongside the local community by hiring local talent and fostering cooperation with local businesses."
